"I am not beneath you"

Updated: Nov 21, 2020

In 2019 I created an art installation that included student interviews from Bowie State University stating how they feel about how sexual assault is represented on their campus. These interviews were put together and attached to a mannequin under its skirt. By placing a mirror on the ground in between the mannequin's legs, you could see the video of the interviews play out. This piece was supposed to be as intrusive as if you were looking up a real woman's dress and I titled it "I Am Not Beneath You". With the topic of sexual assault, people are normally belittled or ignored, and the title fits that stigma perfectly.
